SPARK is a one-of-a-kind, one-week-only, once-a-year celebration of contemporary arts organised by the Creative Industries Research Centre in conjunction with Wintec’s Department of Media Arts in Hamilton. Not just a conference, not just a festival, SPARK offers non-stop talks, performances, exhibitions, panel discussions and entertainment from the cultural cutting edge, morning, noon and night, five days running.
If you come to SPARK 04 (our fifth SPARK) you’ll see and hear the latest from a dynamic array of national and international artists, musicians, filmmakers, designers, critics, writers and multi-media and inter-disciplinary practitioners. Past SPARK guests have included artists Yvonne Todd, Ricky Swallow, Mikala Dwyer and Melinda Rackham; designers Futurefarmers, Rinzen and Ash Bolland; film gurus John Barnett (Whale Rider) and WETA digital; writer and academic Ngahuia Te Awekotuku; hip-hop musicians The Dubious Brothers – to name but a few.

To keep up to date with who's coming, what they're all about and when they'll be appearing, check out our Programme + profiles page.
But that's not all. For those who care deeply about artist-run spaces and other galleries without permanent collections, SPARK 04 offers Faces Places & Spaces – the CNZ-sponsored New Zealand Contemporary Art Project Space Forum. If you think this one-off event is for you, find out more on our Forum: Faces Places & Spaces page.
And, of course, no SPARK would be complete without an array of exhibition openings, dinners, gigs and parties bringing our guests, visitors and Wintec students together. Because that's what SPARK is about: giving everyone a chance to fuse their energy and ideas, then watch the sparks ignite!
So register now for SPARK 04 - just visit our Registration page.
